Arek Mazurek, PhD, PE, SE
Senior Structural Engineer
Structural Engineering
Arek is an experienced structural engineer, with a diverse expertise and skill set. He spent 15 years at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, working on and leading many significant and complex projects, and also chairing their research group. Arek holds a masters degree and PhD in engineering. He is skilled at conventional structural analysis and design, and excels at incorporating new approaches while also focusing on the constructability of his solutions. Arek has spent many years researching and implementing various structural optimization strategies. His experience in design combined with research and development gives him the unique ability of finding structural solutions that minimize material quantities while maximizing both structural and architectural performance.
Arek’s project experience ranges from large-scale, mixed-use projects to small scale tenant fit-out, specialty studies, and feature elements such as cable structures and glass design. Arek’s focus is on working with architects and contractors to provide solutions which enhance the overall project.
Arek is also involved in the professional community and academia. He has published several papers on structural optimization, and serves as the Chair of the ASCE Optimal Structural Design Committee. His numerous presentations and lectures teach the engineering community about efficient structural design.
